CO2 And HPA Air Systems Buyer Guide

Air systems are a major part of less-lethal setup planning. This guide explains how to review CO2 cartridges, HPA tanks, regulators, fittings, seals, storage, and platform compatibility before ordering.

Air Systems Are Part Of The Complete Setup

Many less-lethal and training platforms rely on an air source to operate. Depending on the platform, that may mean CO2 cartridges, an HPA tank, a regulator, fittings, remote lines, seals, or platform-specific air parts.

Air systems are not universal. Before ordering any tank, cartridge, regulator, fitting, or adapter, confirm that it matches the launcher platform and manufacturer requirements.

Start With The Launcher Requirements

The launcher determines the correct air source. Some platforms are designed around CO2 cartridges, while others use HPA tanks or platform-specific regulated air systems.

Do not choose an air source based only on convenience or what worked with another platform. Review the product page and manufacturer guidance before checkout.

CO2 Cartridge Planning

CO2 cartridges can be compact and convenient when the launcher is designed for them. Customers should confirm the correct cartridge size, installation method, storage instructions, and whether spare cartridges are needed.

CO2 performance can be affected by temperature, cartridge condition, seal condition, and the launcher’s design. Do not use damaged cartridges or unapproved cartridge sizes.

HPA Tank Planning

HPA stands for high-pressure air. HPA setups usually use a refillable tank and regulator. They may also require platform-specific fittings, remote lines, fill access, and storage support.

Not every launcher can use HPA, and not every HPA tank or regulator is correct for every launcher. Confirm tank size, output pressure, regulator type, fitting style, and manufacturer approval before ordering.

Regulators And Output Pressure

A regulator controls the air output from an HPA tank or air system. Output pressure matters because the wrong pressure can create poor performance, leaks, damage, or unsafe operation.

Before choosing a regulator, confirm the launcher’s required pressure range and whether the platform needs a specific regulator setup.

Fittings, Remote Lines, And Adapters

Fittings, remote lines, and adapters should be treated as compatibility parts. Even if a part appears to connect physically, that does not mean it is approved or appropriate for the platform.

Check thread type, fitting style, pressure requirements, and manufacturer guidance before using any air system accessory.

Seals, O-Rings, And Leak Prevention

Air-powered platforms often rely on O-rings and seals to hold pressure. Worn, dry, damaged, missing, or incorrect seals can cause leaks and performance issues.

Customers should review whether spare seals, lubricant, or maintenance parts are recommended for the selected platform. Use only compatible parts and follow manufacturer instructions.

Storage And Handling

CO2 cartridges, HPA tanks, regulators, fittings, and seals should be stored safely and kept organized by platform. Do not leave air system parts loose with unrelated magazines, projectiles, or accessories.

Do not use damaged tanks, expired tanks, leaking parts, unknown fittings, or air system components that have not been confirmed for the launcher. If a tank requires inspection, hydro testing, or replacement, follow the tank manufacturer’s requirements.

Air System Checklist

Before ordering CO2 or HPA support parts, review these questions:

  • Which exact launcher platform is the air system for?
  • Does the launcher use CO2, HPA, or another air source?
  • Are cartridges, tanks, or regulators included with the launcher?
  • What cartridge size or tank output pressure is required?
  • Are fittings, remote lines, or adapters platform-specific?
  • Are spare seals, O-rings, lubricant, or tools recommended?
  • Is there a safe storage and transport plan for the air system?
  • Have manufacturer instructions and platform requirements been reviewed?

Ask Before Ordering Air System Parts

Air system compatibility should be confirmed before checkout. If you are unsure whether a cartridge, tank, regulator, fitting, remote line, seal, or adapter fits your launcher, contact Detroit Less Lethal before ordering.

A quick setup review can help prevent wrong air parts, leaks, incomplete setups, and accessories that are not approved for the selected platform.
